Third Day is one of a few bands that I loved the 90s output of but lost interest in as the 00s rolled around. I still checked in on them as they released new music and found myself enjoying a song or two, but was largely uninterested. Even as they returned to the more southern rock flavors I had originally fallen for, I had moved on to Needtobreathe and others. I still enjoy their string of 90s albums most, but I also cherry picked my favorite songs from other albums to fill out a Top 20 Songs of 20 Artists for their catalogue. So here it is…my favorite 20 songs by iconic band Third Day.

20. “Jesus Light of The World” – Christmas Offerings (2006)
19. “Lift Up Your Face” – Move (2010)
18. “Soul On Fire” – Lead Us Back: Songs of Worship (2015)
17. “Revival” – Revival (2017)

I love Third Day, but when I really think about their song catalog as a whole, I see a ton of stuff that’s somewhere between a 6 and 8. Dozens of songs that made my mixtape, but not a lot that I could say were “the song” for me. One man’s opinion only, of course.
Here’s the ones that impacted me at the right time:
“I’ve Always Loved You” and “You Are Mine”
These songs–released five years apart–are almost mirror images of each other. Each hit at an important time in my life.
“Cry Out To Jesus”
The only Third Day song I’ve ever done during a church service….really, I take that back because almost everyone has done “Your Love, Oh Lord” at a campfire service, right?
“Revelation”
I think everyone’s had a time when they didn’t know what to do and this one is really encouraging.
“Merry Christmas”
Every adoptive family knows and they’ve all fought the tears.
“Shown Me Your Glory”
Great song for personal devotion.
“How Do You Know”
(Deep Cut alert) I was on a road trip during a miserable time in my life and had to make a stop at an office that happened to be across the street from a massive “bible book store” that was really a former roller rink made into a massive sales floor of random religious stuff. Wherever You Are was in the bargain bin years after it was released for maybe two bucks. That’s when I heard this extremely unique song and I was like “yeah, that’s right!”
“These Thousand Hills”
I know this is really a Jacob’s Trouble song, but a friend and I may or may not have performed a very ridiculous parody version of it at a 2012 New Year’s party and I may or may not still think it was pretty hilarious.
Now that it’s over, I’m so sad that I only saw TD one and a half times in concert. And the question still burns in my mind to this day, “Were they supposed to be the ‘Christian Hootie’?”
